Send a large folder from a browser with Web Edge

Send a folder of any file count from the browser, without installing anything, using the Web Edge transfer path. Covers selecting the folder, watching the upload in the transfer panel, and confirming the recipient's download.

You end up with
A folder sent as one package, with progress visible while it uploads and a record of the recipient's download.

Updated

Before you start

  • A workspace account that can send packages, and your organization's workspace URL.
  • Web Edge enabled by your administrator with at least one eligible edge node. If the Send page says RIPTON Desktop is required, use the Desktop guide instead.
  • A recent Chrome or Edge browser. Folder selection uses the browser's directory picker.
  • A recipient email you can check, for the verification step.

Steps

  1. Open Send

    Workspace · Send

Sign in to your workspace and open Send. The page title is Send a package.

  2. Add the recipient

In Recipients, type the email address and press Enter. Saved contacts are suggested as you type. Add CC or BCC recipients only if they should see the package.

  3. Give the package a title

Enter a Title recipients will recognise. A Note is optional and is sent as plain text.

  4. Choose the folder

Under Files, select Add folder and pick the top-level folder. Sub-folders are included. The page reads the folder in the background and shows a count and total size; for very large folders this scan takes a moment before Send package becomes available.

  5. Set options if you need them

    More options

Open More options for an Expiration date, a Release date if the package should become available later, a metadata profile if your organization requires one, or a Package passcode if you also want a public link.

  6. Send

Select Send package once. The message 'Package created, uploads continue in the background' means the package exists; the files are still uploading. Keep the browser tab open until the upload finishes.

  7. Follow the upload

    Transfer panel · Sent

Open the transfer panel or Sent and select the package. You will see files completed, bytes sent and a current rate. If the connection drops, the upload resumes the batches that were in flight rather than starting over.

How you know it worked

  • The package in Sent shows every file present and no failed files.
  • The recipient can open the package from their notification and use Download all. Their browser receives one archive with the folder structure intact.
  • For a strict check, compare the SHA-256 of one original file with the downloaded copy, as shown in the Getting started documentation.

If something is off

What you seeWhat to do
Add folder is greyed out or the page asks for RIPTON DesktopWeb Edge is not enabled for your account or no edge node is eligible. Ask your administrator, or send with RIPTON Desktop.
The upload is slowBrowser uploads are limited by your uplink and the route to the edge node. For routes with high latency or loss, RIPTON Desktop uses the accelerated protocol; the guide for Desktop covers it.
The tab was closed before the upload finishedOpen Sent, select the package and check which files are missing. Re-open Send and add the missing files to a new package, or ask your administrator whether the upload can be resumed for that package.
Send package stays unavailableCheck for a missing recipient or title, a required metadata field under More options, or a displayed size-limit message for your plan.
